The Avenida de las Playas will host a spectacular gala evening this Friday, September 26th, to mark World Tourism Day and launch the two-year celebration of the resort’s 60th anniversary as a tourist destination.
The “Puerto del Carmen International Tourism Day and ZEConsciente Awards” gala, commencing at 7:30pm, is the inaugural event for a programme of festivities that will run until October 2026. It celebrates six decades of the town’s remarkable transformation, renowned hospitality, and its journey to becoming a world-class destination.
The evening will serve as a poignant tribute to the individuals whose vision and dedication built the resort we know today. This year’s ZEConsciente awards will honour four key figures:
- Ico Montelongo Pérez, recognised for his unwavering commitment to local products and the island’s ice cream-making tradition.
- Josefina Gopar, a pioneering businesswoman in La Tiñosa and a benchmark for exceptional visitor service.
- Emilio Pérez Franquiz, a master fisherman and the first president of the La Tiñosa Fishermen’s Association.
- Kenneth Gasque, the founder of Ironman Lanzarote, whose vision propelled Puerto del Carmen onto the global stage of sports tourism.
A highlight of the night will be the unveiling of the official 60th-anniversary commemorative branding. The dynamic new visual identity, featuring vibrant colours, white confetti, and red squares, is designed to reflect the energy, diversity, and bright future of a destination that perfectly blends tradition with innovation and sustainability.
The gala will be brought to life by a powerful musical performance from the renowned Canarian company, Cantadores. Featuring an ensemble of 25 artists and technicians, the show will star three of the Canary Islands’ most celebrated voices: Ciro Corujo, Manuel Estupiñán, and Pedro Manuel Afonso. Their performance promises to take the audience on an emotional journey through the shared memories and culture that have defined generations in Lanzarote.
This invitation-only gala is the starting point for a full year of events designed to solidify Puerto del Carmen’s status as an excellent, innovative, and respectful tourist destination.
