Yaiza Mayor declares two days of mourning after tragedy

Yaiza Ayuntamiento has declared two days of mourning after yesterday’s tragic accident which resulted in the death of a five-month-old baby and six injured.

Mayor of Yaiza, Oscar Noda, has declared two days of mourning starting today, Tuesday March 12th, with a minute’s silence in front of the Ayuntamiento building at noon.

Speaking to Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, Noda stated that “the images were quite chilling.”. After receiving an alert about the tragedy, Noda stated “during the call, by the tone of voice and the way he [Head of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Enrique Espinosa] spoke to me I knew that the situation looked drastic.”.

In closing, Noda stated that the event has shocked the whole island and that “we have not seen anything similar for a long time.”.
