High tides and unsettled weather from the south caused storm drains to overflow on Playa Los Pocillos in Puerto del Carmen yesterday, and the beach was closed to users as a precaution.
The high tides entered the storm drains and brought mud onto the beach as the tide receded. Tías Mayor José Juan Cruz assured locals that the contents of the storm drains did not include sewage and that the beach would be fully open today.
Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen also raised the red flag, prohibiting bathing, as south-westerly winds and currents came to the island.
