Lanzarote recorded 70% fewer tourists in the first 9 months of this year, compared to figures from 2019.

In the first nine months of 2021 the island had recorded a total of 598,304 tourists, while figures from 2019 show the first nine months brought in a total of over 2 million tourists.

The past 3 months have seen great improvements in tourism, jumping from an average of 37000 (in the months of April, May and June) to an average of 146000 from June to September. Additionally, the total numbers of tourists from January – September in 2021 make up 75% of 2020’s total tourism figures.

Figures from the Lanzarote Data Centre and Canarian Institute of Statistics have shown that UK tourism has fallen by 89.1%. Additionally, German tourism has fallen by 73.9%.

The tourism recovery is on the right track, improving from month to month. However, there is still a huge gap to bridge before figures return to pre-covid levels.
