The Ayuntamiento of Tías has issued a warning that the Avenida de las Playas – the main seafront road in Puerto del Carmen,- will be closed to traffic from 7 am to 5 pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

More specifically, the stretch between Calle César Manrique and Calle Acatife (roughly from the Atlántico Centre to the Hotel Fariones)  will be closed to allow roadworks to take place.

The stretch between Calle César Manrique and Calle Guanapay will be open only to residents and public transport, as long as the vehicles do not exceed 6 metres in length.

The works being carried out relate to the new La Perla shopping centre, a huge construction which is currently being built. The shopping centre will have a Mercadona supermarket and 350 parking spaces on upper floors. Access to these parking places will be via Calle Guardilama and Calle Guatifay, residential streets that have been relatively quiet and peaceful, but which are likely to see a huge increase in traffic once the shopping centre opens.

It is forecast that most of the works will be completed by the end of this year, although no date has yet been given for the opening of the shopping centre.
