Yellow heat alert extended across Lanzarote until Thursday

AEMET has extended its yellow heat alert for Lanzarote. The alert now runs from 11 am until 7 pm on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24^th of September.

Temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius are forecast and could reach 37 degrees in some areas. The worst-affected area will be the southern half of the island. A light calima will accompany the heatwave.

The Canarian Government has also issued a state of pre-alert for the heatwave. A pre-alert means that emergency services should be prepared for situations relating to the situation, but if elevated to full alert status it could mean other measures are taken, such as school closures.
