A yellow alert for airborne dust has been issued by AEMET for Lanzarote this weekend. The alert comes into force at midday today (Saturday, April 18th) and will remain end at midnight on Sunday 19th.

Visibility is expected to be reduced to 3,000 metres, and the calima will mainly affect central and high-lying areas, although it may descend to lower levels.

As usual, vulnerable people, such as infants, pregnant women, the elderly and those with respiratory diseases, are worst affected, and for this group, staying indoors and keeping windows closed is recommended.

The calima will also arrive with heat. Average temperatures of 27 degrees are forecast for daytime, with possible maximums in the low 30s. The UV index is 9, so stay protected.
