Yaiza Ayuntamiento has signed a €1.3 million contract to completely refurbish the entrance to Playa Blanca via Femés. Mayor Óscar Noda confirmed the agreement with the successful bidding company, Hermanos Tavío Santana S.L., on Monday.

The works will focus on the section of the Avenida Femés between the large roundabout just after the Punto Limpo and the Marcastell residential area at the entrance to Playa Blanca. Mayor Noda described it as “a municipal project necessary to improve road safety and aesthetics on one of the access roads to our main tourist centre.”

According to the tender specifications, the project will include full resurfacing of the road, widening of the carriageway, and the construction of a dedicated bicycle lane. The  upgrade will also feature new public lighting and improved road signage.

Ángel Lago, Yaiza’s Councillor for Public Works, emphasised the dual purpose of the investment. “This road carries a lot of traffic throughout the year and its deterioration is more than evident,” he stated, “but our goal is also to improve the area and offer a more pleasant image of Playa Blanca, as this route is the first impression that visitors get of our town.”

Parallel Works on Avenida Papagayo to Begin Shortly

In a related development, Mayor Noda also confirmed that work is imminent on a separate, larger urban regeneration project for Avenida Papagayo in Playa Blanca. This €2.6 million project, awarded to the same contractor, covers the stretch between the church and the Ciudad Jardín roundabout.

Planned improvements there include new paving, the creation of two additional parking areas, a full renovation of street lighting, and enhancements to the overall urban environment.

The mayor concluded with a clear message to all contracted firms. “Our message to all companies is the same: we are boosting the economy with significant public investment and we pay all our suppliers on time, so we demand that the successful bidders complete the projects in a timely manner.”

Yaiza Ayuntamiento currently has fourteen active tenders for works and services underway, representing a total investment of €23 million.
