Yaiza celebrated the diversity of the Canary Islands’ native dog breeds with the first All-Breed Dog Show held in Lanzarote, attracting around 80 dogs and a strong public turnout on Saturday, May 30th, as part of the Canarian Day festivities.

Organised by the Lanzarote Presa Canario Club in collaboration with Yaiza Ayuntamiento, the event took place in a specially prepared area next to Plaza de la Alameda. Support was provided by the island’s New Hunters’ Society, the Que Perro veterinary clinic, and the Argeo Peña group.

While the Presa Canario remains the most widely recognised of the archipelago’s native breeds, visitors also had the opportunity to discover and compare several lesser-known breeds. Dogs featured in the exhibition included the Presa Canario, Podenco Canario, Pastor Garafiano, Pastor Majorero, Lobito Herreño, Ratonero Palmero and Podenco Enano del Hierro.

The exhibition also gave spectators insight into the distinctive characteristics of each breed and the criteria used by judges during the competition.

The Presa Canario, one of the event’s main attractions, is internationally recognised by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the world’s largest canine organisation.

Yaiza Ayuntamiento thanked all participants, including breeders and owners from Lanzarote and other islands, for contributing to the success of the event.
