A 50-year-old woman drowned yesterday in the natural pools at Punta Mujeres.
Emergency services were notified just after 1 pm and beach users, among them an off-duty fireman, attempted to resuscitate the victim, but their efforts were in vain.
It is the third drowning in a week on Lanzarote, following the death of a 70-year-old bather on Playa de los Pocillos on Wednesday, and the incident on Thursday in which a five-year-old British child was retrieved from a swimming pool in a hotel complex. Although rescuers managed to re-establish a pulse, the child died later in the children’s hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
