Lucía Franco Pascual won 10 gold and two silver medals at the European Police and Firefighters Games in Vigo, earning congratulations from Tías Ayuntamiento officials for her performance across four sporting disciplines.

The officer won four gold medals in weightlifting, taking first place in the snatch, clean and jerk, total, and open weight categories.

She added another four gold medals in powerlifting, winning the squat, bench press, deadlift and total categories.

Her success continued in CrossFit, where she secured gold in both the RX individual and RX pairs events. She competed in the pairs event alongside an officer from Arrecife, who also won five other gold medals and three silver medals.

Franco Pascual completed her medal tally with two silver medals in precision shooting with a 9mm pistol. She took silver in the individual event and the team competition, alongside officers from Frontex and the Mossos d’Esquadra.

Possible appearance at world championships in Australia

Her next high-level competition could be the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG), scheduled to take place next March in Perth, Australia.

However, travelling will depend on whether she receives institutional support to attend the event.

Reflecting on her experience at the European Championships, Franco Pascual described it as “a very rewarding experience.”

“I was pleasantly surprised by the large number of women who were competing, particularly female firefighters and national police officers, but also examples like a 68-year-old retired woman who never stops competing in the games,” she adds.

She also highlighted the opportunity to learn from other competitors and discover how police and emergency services operate in other countries.

The truth is, she concludes, “it’s an extraordinary opportunity to learn what others do and how things work in other countries. I suppose we’re all grateful to be able to combine our profession with the lifestyle we want to lead, training and improving every day.”
