Although the wind is expected to ease off today, AEMET has issued a yellow wind warning for the hours between 6 am and 6pm tomorrow, Saturday 11th April. Gusts of up to 70 kph are predicted.

Yesterday’s winds caused delays, diverted flights and cancellations at Lanzarote’s Airport. Two flights to Gran Canaria were cancelled, and two Ryanair flights were diverted to Tenerife South after being unable to land at Lanzarote. The problems were caused by unpredictable crosswinds and wind shear.

Current forecasts are for a high possibility of rain showers today and tomorrow, although there may also be sunny intervals. Conditions are forecast to return to normal from Sunday afternoon.

The poor weather is the result of yet another storm passing to the north of Lanzarote. In this case, the storm already appears to be losing force and is not significant enough to have been given a name.
