Many visitors know Guapatini as a familiar face of Lanzarote nightlife, but the story behind the performer stretches back decades and across several areas of the entertainment industry.
Successful performers rarely arrive on stage by accident. Behind every production is often a long journey of experience, training and dedication.
For Paul Burnham, that journey began in the world of professional theatre. Early in his career, he performed on London’s West End stages, developing the skills that would later become central to his work as both a presenter and live entertainer.
His career expanded into television, where he hosted his own programme on Children’s BBC for two years, introducing him to audiences across the United Kingdom. Film work followed, including a role alongside acclaimed actor John Malkovich.
Yet it was the creation of Guapatini that would become one of his most recognisable achievements.
The glamorous character emerged as a distinctive entertainment personality, combining humour, music and theatrical performance. Audiences responded enthusiastically, helping establish Guapatini as a popular figure on the Spanish entertainment circuit.
In 2010, the character became a familiar name in Málaga before eventually taking centre stage in Torremolinos, where Guapatini’s Show Bar built a strong following among visitors and residents alike.
When the pandemic disrupted the entertainment industry, many performers faced significant challenges. Rather than stepping away from the stage, Paul brought Guapatini to Lanzarote, creating a new chapter in the character’s story.
Today, Guapatini’s Show Bar in Puerto del Carmen offers audiences a more intimate experience, where every seat feels close to the action and guests become part of the evening’s atmosphere.
The journey from West End performer to Lanzarote entertainer reflects the adaptability often required in show business. For audiences, it also provides an opportunity to enjoy a performance shaped by decades of professional experience, delivered with humour, glamour and plenty of personality.
