The wildfire in Tenerife could be under control this week, according to Rosa Davila, President of Tenerife’s Cabildo.

Firefighting has once agin been made difficult by hot weather, with flare-ups around the 90 kilometre perimeter of the fire, but emergency service say that , “although there is a long way to go, we can see light at the end of the tunnel.”

firefighters from Lanzarote have joined the operation and told La Voz de Lanzarote about the challenges of tackling the blaze. “It’s pretty tough when you try to stop it spreading and fail to do so,” said fire chief Domingo Crespo.

The firemen headed to Tenerife last Wednesday. “We worked day and night, and on Friday we had to finally rest,” said Crespo. A separate team of Lanzarote firefighters took over as they flew back to Lanzarote, returning on Monday.
