279 migrants have arrived on Lanzarote in six boats over the weekend, as calm weather has led to rise in crossings.
The two maritime rescue vessels, Salvamar Al Nair and Guardamar Concepción Arenal, have had an exceptionally busy weekend, intercepting pateras from the African coast and transferring occupants to the main pier in Arrecife.
The migrants will be transferred to initial processing centres for a period of 48 hours, before being taken to other islands or the mainland.
