Teguise Ayuntamiento has revealed the winning design for this year’s carnival poster contest. The chosen artwork, titled “Serenata”, is by artist Luis Ángel Argota Martín from Álava, who will receive a prize of 600 euros.
His design will become the official visual for this year’s carnival, embodying the spirit of the festivities. The 2026 celebration will run under the theme “Mexico Lindo y Más Allá, la Fiesta de los Muertos” (Beautiful Mexico and Beyond, The Feast of the Dead), a theme chosen by vote.
The Mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, stated, “The winning poster reflects the spirit of the Teguise Carnival, integrating traditional elements of the municipality with a theme chosen by the citizens themselves.” She added, “I would like to thank all the people who submitted their work, contributing to enriching one of the most representative festivals on the municipal calendar.”
Councillor for Festivities, Andoni Machín, emphasised that “the poster contest is one of the first steps in Carnival and a fundamental tool for involving citizens and creators in the construction of the festival.” He also thanked participants for “the quality of the proposals submitted and the work of the jury.”
The 2026 Carnival will launch with the presentation of carnival groups in Villa de Teguise on 8 February. The main events will then be held from 2 to 8 March in Costa Teguise and Villa de Teguise, followed by celebrations on the island of La Graciosa from 12 to 15 March.
With the selection of this promotional poster, Teguise City Council officially begins the countdown to Carnival 2026.
