Ecologists In Action have called for a halt to building works that are taking place between the Monumento de Campesino and La Florida, which they claim are endangering a rare plant that is native to Lanzarote.
Helichrysum monogynum, known as Red Tinderbox, is a small shrub with reddish cotton-like flowers that only exists in three places in the world, all of which are on Lanzarote.
Ecologists In Actioon have called for the area where the plant is found to be protected, with the halting of works and excluision from classification for agricultural use.
