Puerto del Carmen celebrates spectacular maritime procession for the Fiestas de Carmen

Puerto del Carmen yesterday celebrated its maritime procession, the showpiece of the Fiestas de Carmen, on a perfect day for the occasion.

After a mass, the image of the virgin was carefully carried down to the harbour and placed on a fishing boat. A fleet of small boats then accompanied her at sea, where floral offerings were cast upon the waves.

The image was then returned to the church among chants of “Viva la Virgen de Carmen!” the accompanying video, from the Ayuntamiento of Tías, captures the festive atmosphere.
