A male nurse was attacked by a prisoner in Tahiche prison yesterday, highlighting recent complaints by prison officers that medical staff in the prison are “completely inadequate.”
The nurse was punched in the face by a prisoner as he turned to reach for medication, and suffered a split lip and bruising. The prisoner is recorded as having attacked five prison workers, including the prison doctor, during a previous sentence, and was moved to a psychiatric facility.
