Playa Blanca, the town that was once a sleepy fishing village, has paid tribute to its routes with a new statue in the centre of town where the Anchor used to be. The new statue shows a fisherman on a boat.
President of the Playa Blanca Fishermen’s Assocation, Cristo Caraballo, expressed his happiness stating “Sailors and their families will see this tribute as deserved recognition for their work. Thanks to the Ayuntamiento for this sculpture that everyone who visits Playa Blanca will be able to see and appreciate.”.
The sculpture perfectly encapsulates the town’s identity and seafaring history. “It is a work that humanises the space”, Noda added. It’s location, on the small roundabout in the centre of town sits just a few steps away from the beach and waters.
The Mayor thanked the artist Cinta Machín for their work and councilman Rubén Arca for his efforts to make it happen.
