La vendimia, Lanzarote’s wine harvest, has started this week, earlier than usual as last week’s heatwave had caused grapes to ripen earlier.
The island’s Wine Council has confirmed that the bodegas of El Grifo, Davíd Fernández and Jable de Tao started picking grapes this week, with the malvasia volcánica grapes being the first to be gathered, washed and weighed.
The harvest will continue through July and August, and it is predicted that it will be good one, with around 2.5 million kilos. This would be more than three times the amount of last year’s poor harvest.
