A sparkling wine produced in Lanzarote has been awarded a gold medal at the 24th Città del Vino International Wine Competition, one of Europe’s leading wine events.

Princesa Fayna, a white sparkling wine from Bodegas Vega de Yuco, received the prestigious award in the white sparkling wine category during the competition’s final round, held in Venice, Italy, from 29th to 31st May.

The event, organised by the European Network of Wine Cities (RECEVIN), attracted more than 1,400 entries from 12 countries. Across all wine categories, as well as the competition’s dedicated spirits section, judges awarded a total of 455 prizes.

Strong Showing for Canary Islands Wines

Canarian producers enjoyed notable success, securing nine gold medals and one silver medal. Alongside Princesa Fayna, other gold medal winners included:

  • Pago de Los Cercados Tinto and Pago de Los Cercados Selección, from Bodega Emilio Tomás Palmero (Tacoronte-Acentejo PDO)
  • Hiboro, from Bodega Terruño de la Hijuela (Tacoronte-Acentejo PDO)
  • Conatvs Pink and Airan, from Bodegas Conatvs (Canary Islands PDO)
  • Pumuki Ancestral and Eidan Blanco, from Bodegas Ventura (Gran Canaria PDO)
  • Albillo Criollo Selección, from Bodega Emilio Tomás Palmero

The sole silver medal for the islands went to Conatvs Baboso Negro, produced by Bodegas Conatvs, in the dry red still wine category.

Canary Islands Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, praised the results, noting that 10 of the 11 Canarian wines entered into the competition received medals.
