Five people were injured, three seriously, in a crash on the LZ-40 road from the airport to Puerto del Carmen yesterday.

The accident occurred at around 3.30 pm and involved at least three vehicles. On arrival, firefighters had to free two of the victims who had been trapped in their car.

Three men, aged 30, 34 and 52 were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. A 45-year-old woman, who presented moderate injuries and an 11-year-old child who was also injured, were also taken for treatment.

The LZ-40 is one of the accident “black spots” on Lanzarote, along with the LZ-2 stretch to Playa Blanca which saw two a young couple lose their lives earlier this week. Works to convert the LZ-40 to a dual carriageway are scheduled to begin next year.
