Firefighters rescue ducklings in Yaiza

Firefighters yesterday rescued eight Ruddy Shelduck ducklings from an aljibe (water tank) in La Degollada, Yaiza.

Loca Police had notified them that the ducklings were in the aljibe, and were unable to get out, with some of the ducklings already dead. Two firefighters in diving gear rescued the ducklings.

The Ruddy Shelduck is a large cinnamon-coloured duck that has established itself on the eastern Canaries in recent years.
