Lanzarote’s summer flight season will begin next weekend with a reduction in the number of flights compared to last year, according to the Lanzarote Society for Overseas Promotion.
679 flights offering a total of 94,500 seats are estimated to arrive weekly this summer, compared to over 700 flights with almost 100,000 seats every week last year.
The figures seem to reflect that the boom in tourism that the island has experienced over the last five years may have reached its ceiling.
Over half of the scheduled flights are domestic – either inter-island or connecting with the Spanish mainland.
187 weekly flights will arrive from Lanzarote’s most important market, the UK, while 40 will touch down from Ireland, which has become the second-most important market in recent years.
The figures also confirm that Lanzarote’s winter season is now consistently busier than the summer, with the most popular months. Last year’s busiest months were February, October and March, while September, June and May were the least busy.
