Lanzarote’s Cabildo has produced a report dedicated to improving accessibility in bars, restaurants and cafes, as well to improve inclusion in the sector.

The report recognises that steps have been taken to improve physical access in many establishments, but claims that sensory and cognitive elements that affect, for example, those with autism, ADHD or those with hearing difficulties, could still be improved.

The report also suggests that staff could be better trained in dealing with different types of disability.

Armando Santana, of the Cabildo’s Hospitality Department, said that the report was not intended to penalise establishments, but merely to act as a tool and guideline for future actions, “putting people at the centre of public policy.”.
