Arrecife police crack down on electric scooters

Arrecife local Police fined 54 scooter drivers in a single operation that took place in the afternoon and evening of Tuesday, 18^th March.

Eight “personal mobility vehicles” were also confiscated for not complying with technical requirements during the operation.

According to the Traffic Department, scooters must use the road, in the same direction as other traffic, and may not travel on sidewalks or in pedestrian areas. The maximum authorized speed cannot exceed 25 km/h.

Nevertheless, it is still common to see scooter users ignoring the rules.
