A 40-year-old man has been arrested by the Yaiza local police after driving recklessly while fleeing police and testing positive for cocaine.
The events occurred at 8pm last Saturday in Playa Blanca, when a 40-year-old driver was stopped by local police for overtaking on a solid white line.
The driver initially stopped at the Yaiza local police’s request but quickly sped off afterwards. The police took note of the 40-year-old drivers licence plate and later found that the car had crashed into a stone wall near the roundabout at the Parque del Mediterráneo.
The driver tried to run away from the local police but was eventually caught a few streets over. He was taken to the police station where he was tested for alcohol and illicit substances. The 40-year-old driver tested positive for cocaine.
His car was seized and searched by the local police where they found various goods of unknown origin including kitchen appliances, vacuum cleaners, perfumes, alcohol, clothes and shoes.
Yaiza Mayor, Óscar Noda, values the quick response of the local police and appreciates the work of the agents during the Christmas period in which the municipality has increased surveillance in high traffic areas.
