After 5 matches the Rojillos (the reds) have won one, lost one and drawn the other three games leaving them in 12th position and six points off the league leaders, writes Ian Lane.
The club organized an excursion for their first away match to Fuerteventura on the19th September to meet newly promoted SD Villaverde. Despite this great support and dominating the match, Lanzarote only returned with a point in a 1-1 draw.
A week later the first derby match of the season took place with San Bartolomé CF being the visitors and after an excellent intense match the honours were even with another 1-1 stalemate.
The best performance of the season to date was away in Gran Canaria versus the much-fancied UD Las Palmas C. The league-leaders went in front early in the second half but Lanzarote levelled via a penalty in the 68th minute. Three minutes later winger Nadjib scored an amazing goal from 30 yards to claim his team’s first win of the season.
With confidence high, the Rojillos faced one of the favourites for automatic promotion UD San Fernando. The Gran Canarian side dominated the first half and deservedly went into the break with a 0-1 lead.
Lanzarote were much better in the second period and struck the woodwork on two occasions but ultimately succumbed to their first defeat of the season, losing to that solitary goal.
The league is still in its infancy and the club welcomes all fans to Ciudad Deportiva stadium in Arrecife. It’s easy to get to and just pay on the door (details below).
