Lanzarote has begun celebrations for the 35th anniversary of IRONMAN Lanzarote in Hawaii, with the unveiling of a commemorative logo and a presentation promoting the island’s place in international triathlon.

A delegation from Lanzarote attended the event at the invitation of The IRONMAN Group, joining representatives of the international organisation at Kona, home of the IRONMAN World Championship, which will take place on October 10th.

The presentation marked the start of preparations for the 35th edition of IRONMAN Lanzarote and highlighted the history of a race that has helped establish the island as an international destination for sports tourism.

Since its first edition, IRONMAN Lanzarote has raised the island’s profile within the global triathlon community and strengthened its reputation for outdoor sports, nature and major sporting events.

An international platform for the anniversary

Launching the anniversary celebrations in Kona allows Lanzarote to promote the forthcoming edition on one of the sport’s most important international stages.

The initiative aims to use the global reach of the IRONMAN World Championship to strengthen Lanzarote’s position as a destination for sport.

Oswaldo Betancort, president of the Cabildo, said “The fact that the 35th anniversary of IRONMAN Lanzarote is being launched from Kona places the island at the global heart of this sport. We want to take advantage of this showcase to continue highlighting a Lanzarote that not only hosts major competitions but also offers conditions and a landscape that are integral to the sporting experience itself”.

Lanzarote IRONMAN 2027

Juan Monzón, the Sports Councilor for the Cabildo, said “We have the best IRONMAN in the world, and starting with this upcoming edition we will take a qualitative leap that will mark a turning point for our island.”

Agustí Pérez, Senior Regional Director for Southern Europe at The IRONMAN Group, highlighted the race’s planned inclusion in the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series in 2027.

“We are particularly excited that in 2027, the IRONMAN Lanzarote will become part of the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series – a recognition of its significance within the international calendar and an opportunity to continue showcasing the race and the island of Lanzarote to the world’s elite in our sport.”
