Recyclable waste collection workers announce strike action

Workers involved with the collection of glass, plastic and paper waste have announced a strike at the beginning of October.

The workers are demanding a wage increase and a change in working hours that will permit them to take Saturdays off.

A driver for the service earns €1,250 a month, while a general employee earns €1,014, according to the CCOO union. No wage rises have been awarded since 2024.

Negotiations involving the union, the Urbaser company and the Cabildo are likely to continue next week in an attempt to avert the strike, which is planned for the first 15 days of October.
