Four pateras intercepted in waters off Lanzarote within 24 hours

Four pateras containing around 200 migrants have been intercepted in waters off Lanzarote.

Ther boats – inflatables and wooden cayucos – were located within a period of 24 hours by Maritime Rescue vessels and escorted to Puerto Naos in Arrecife, where occupants will be processed.

One man was taken to Arrecife’s hospital to be treated for symptoms of hypothermia.

The calmer weather in September and October usually brings an increase in the amount of pateras heading for the Canary Islands.
