Spain’s weather agency AEMET has issued a warning for a heatwave that is likely to affect the Canary Islands from Wednesday onwards.
The warning states that “a gradual decrease in the humid layer is expected over the Canary Islands, which, combined with the warm, subsiding air mass, will lead to marked temperature increases, with calima (airborne dust) above this layer.”
Temperatures are predicted to rise from Wednesday afternoon onwards, reaching 35 degrees or even higher in some parts of the island, with the heatwave continuing into the weekend. Wind speeds are also forecast to reduce considerably at the weekend.
No heat warnings have yet been issued.
