The Canarian Government has declared an emergency in order to carry out the required actions to finish and open the multipurpose building at the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital.

The multipurpose building, opposite the emergency department, was built during the pandemic to provide space for emerging diseases. However, the current plan is to transfer the mainly geriatric residents of the Hospital Insular to the main hospital.

The emergency declaration will allow building works to be terminated more quickly.

The Hospital Insular, located near the Charco de San Ginés in Arrecife, was opened in 1950, but is now being emptied after reports of serious structural, electrical, and fire protection deficiencies.
