The MV Hondius, the cruiser affected by an outbreak of hantavirus, will anchor off the coast of Tenerife when it arrives on Sunday, but will not dock at Granadilla harbour.
Once moored, passengers will remain on board until aeroplanes are ready to evacuate them to their home countries, it was announced yesterday. Spain, the UK and the USA have already arranged special flights for their citizens.
The state of health of the passengers currently in isolation aboard is said to be good, with no passenger displaying symptoms of illness since April 28th.
A meeting yesterday between Canarian President Fernando Calvijo, Spain’s Health Minister Monica García and Minister for Territorial Affairs, Ángel Victor Torres, is reported to have calmed relations, following Clavijo’s opposition to the cruiser’s arrival on the islands.
