The Lanzarote Cabildo is pressing ahead with its ambition to achieve zero waste, announcing that it has launched a tender for the supply of brown organic waste containers.
The president of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasised that the tender “represents a decisive step toward transforming waste management on the island, improving public services, and positioning Lanzarote at the forefront of sustainability in a region that is particularly sensitive from an environmental standpoint.”
Betancort added that “we are building a modern and efficient network that will allow us to better separate organic waste, treat it here, and convert it into useful resources for the primary sector, the landscape, and society as a whole.”
Together, the expansion of organic bins and the new composting facility are designed to create a closed loop system, treating organic waste locally and turning it into valuable resources for agriculture, the environment and the wider community.
