The countdown is officially on for one of Lanzarote’s most anticipated celebrations. Yaiza Ayuntamiento is extending a warm invitation to both residents and visitors to dive headfirst into the vibrant Carnival festivities taking over the tourist town of Playa Blanca this week.

Scheduled to run from Thursday, March 12, to Sunday, March 15, the programme promises a spectacular mix of colour, music, and tradition. Whether you are a fan of elaborate costumes, live concerts, or family-friendly daytime events, the schedule has something for everyone.

Highlights include a dazzling carnival parade featuring floats, dance groups, and masks; a highly anticipated concert by world-famous merengue singer Elvis Crespo; and a performance by Spanish urban artist Henry Méndez. The weekend will also feature a traditional carnival day, a daytime carnival with Nueva Línea, and a glamorous Drag Queen Gala showcasing the best talent from across the Canary Islands.

Here is the full line-up of events to help you plan your Carnival experience:

THURSDAY, MARCH 12

  • 5:30 p.m. Dog Carnival – at the main venue on Av. Papagayo (in front of the Princesa Yaiza hotel)
  • 8:30 p.m. Carnival Gala featuring the Los Timanfeiros troupe, Los Yaiseros and Ritmos del Sur batucadas, Dance Pop ballet, and the crowning of the municipality’s Carnival king and queen.

FRIDAY, MARCH 13

  • 10:00 a.m. School Carnival with CEIP Playa Blanca, parading along Calle Limones to Plaza del Carmen.
  • 5:30 p.m. Traditional Carnival with Los Buches and Diabletes de Teguise along Calle la Limones.
  • 6:30 p.m. Performance by the Los Jarvac orchestra on Calle Limones.
  • 9:00 p.m. Murguero gathering with the Los Simplones afilarmónica and Los Intoxicados murga at the main venue on Av. Papagayo (in front of the Princesa Yaiza hotel)
  • 10:00 p.m. Concert by Henry Méndez, followed by an open-air dance with Mambo Latino, Kandela, and Banda Nueva.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14

  • 10:30 a.m. Children’s Carnival with dance groups from local schools, the show Hércules y Los Desiguales, and the Creciendo Association at the main venue on Av. Papagayo (in front of the Princesa Yaiza hotel)
  • 6:00 p.m. Grand Carnival parade featuring groups and floats, starting near the ALDI supermarket.
  • 10:00 p.m. ELVIS CRESPO CONCERT at the main venue on Av. Papagayo (in front of the Princesa Yaiza hotel). The night continues with a street party featuring DJ Elvis, Sergio Aranda (former member of Ráfaga), and Banda Nueva.

SUNDAY, MARCH 15

  • 12:30 p.m. Daytime Carnival with performances by Nueva Línea, DJ Renzzo El Selector, and Rika Banda.
  • 8:30 p.m. Drag Queen Gala, showcasing the finest drag queens in the Canary Islands.
