A body has been located at Los Charcones, with all indications being that it is the young American student who was washed out to sea by a wave on Sunday.
The body was located by Guardia Civil divers at a depth of 13 metres, near the area where the young man was swept into the sea with a companion who was rescued by an emergency helicopter. Divers joined the search today, once the sea was finally calm enough to conduct an underwater search.
The body has been transported to Marina Rubicón by a Guardia Civil patrol boat, where it will await identification. A Canarian Government alert remains in place for rough seas affecting the north-western coast of Lanzarote, and a yellow alert will come into operation from 6 am tomorrow until midday on Thursday.
