Fodor’s, the famous publisher of travel guides, has placed the Canary Islands on its 2026 “No List” of tourist destinations that conscientious travellers should avoid.
The No List is not a call for a boycott, but a list intended to make travellers think twice and help to ease pressure on destinations which Fodor’s believe are suffering from the negative consequences of too much tourism.
Fodor’s claim that the Canary Islands are suffering from problems including an acute housing crisis, traffic congestion, water shortages and environmental problems, many of which are made worse because of the record numbers of tourists visiting the islands.
The Canaries appear on the list along with Antarctica, the Glacier National Park in Montana, the Jungfrau region of Switzerland and Montmartre in Paris.
