Storm Claudia passed over Lanzarote yesterday without serious incident, bringing heavy rains mainly to the north of the island. The rainfall was mainly concentrated between 6 am and 9 am, with another heavy downpour in the early afternoon

At César Manrique Airport most, plane departures suffered delays ranging from a few minutes to several hours. The delays were caused by the late arrival of many planes, given that the storm is also affecting many European airports.

Gusts of up to 80 kph led to the emergency services attending several cases of fallen branches and cables, and rough seas meant that the ferry service to La Graciosa was cut to a minimum, while Lanzarote’s cruise port was closed until early afternoon.

Up to 11 mms of rain (1.1 litres) per square metre fell in Haría, while southern parts of the island reached half that amount. No floods were reported.

All alerts have now been lifted, with bright sunshine and mild westerly winds forecast for today.
