Arrecife’s main beach closed yet again by health officials

Arrecife’s city beach, Playa Reducto, was closed yesterday after sewage was once again discovered in the water by public health officials

The source of the contamination is an outflow located at Punto Camellos, the headland near the Cabildo and the bus interchange.

Reducto was re-opened just four days ago after being closed for over a fortnight due to sewage contamination from the same source. Arrecife Ayuntamiento has said the beach will remain closed until the Water Consortium and Canal Gestión resolve the problem once and for all. 

Davinía Deniz, Arrecife’s beaches councillor, has called for “speed and responsibility” from those in charge of the sewage system.
