The Service for Attention to Women at Risk of Domestic Violence received a marked increase in emergency calls in August, according to recent figures.

163 calls were received in August, significantly more than in any other month.   106 of these calls were classed as representing an “immediate threat to the life, property or rights of a person.”

As expected, the highest number of calls (74) were received in Arrecife, the most populated council area. However, there was no notable increase in reported domestic violence in the capital compared to other months. Other areas, such as Tias, Teguise and San Bartolomé, saw the most notable increases.
