Last week, Yaiza Ayuntamiento announced that a new municipal facility cleaning service began, provided by the STV Gestión S.L. company.

Finalized by Yaiza Ayuntamiento for €894,000 over two years – with an option to extend for two more – the service promises a significant upgrade in cleanliness and maintenance for key public spaces.

The company is now responsible for a comprehensive cleaning roster, including cultural centres, public restrooms, the Playa Blanca library, and the municipal gym, utilising its own staff and equipment. The twelve workers hired to carry out these essential tasks are all residents of the municipality.

The new team was formally introduced at a meeting last Wednesday morning at the Camel Museum, attended by Yaiza Mayor Óscar Noda and Councillors Rubén Arca and Águeda Cedrés. Carmen María del Águila, a representative of STV Gestión S.L., was also present.

Councillor Rubén Arca, responsible for Cleaning and Maintenance of Public Buildings, detailed the extensive scope of the contract. This includes cleaning the bathrooms at the bus station and managing the opening and closing times of restrooms at the Playa Blanca sports field, the Uga picnic area, Plaza La Alameda in Yaiza, public toilets in town in Playa Blanca, and the El Aulagar and San Marcial de Rubicón sports fields.

“The aim is to optimise the service so that users, who in this case are both municipal workers and residents who visit and use public facilities, have cleaner and more comfortable spaces at their disposal,” Arca stated.

Looking ahead, Mayor Óscar Noda highlighted that this is part of a broader effort to improve municipal services. “At the same time, we are working on feasibility reports to put out to tender the new municipal solid waste collection service and the tender for the cleaning and maintenance of gardens and toilets in public schools,” he said. “The municipality has grown, and we do not have enough staff to cover all areas of work.”

This follows Yaiza Ayuntamiento’s move in April to award a one-year emergency rubbish collection contract to Valoriza, after discontinuing the deficient service previously provided by Urbaser. Yaiza Ayuntamiento is now finalising the tender process for a new, permanent waste management solution.
