The weather station at Tías registered a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius yesterday, just 1.5 degrees less than the highest temperature ever recorded on Lanzarote.
The island sweltered under extreme heat and a hazy calima, with the highest temperatures reported in Tías and Tinajo.
Coastal areas were a little cooler than inland regions, with a maximum of 32 degrees at the airport and 35.7 degrees at Playa Blanca.
An orange heat alert remains in place today (Monday), as well as a yellow calima alert. Forecasts are for more high temperatures, although not as intense as Sunday’s. Most of the island is predicted to have temperatures in the mid-30s, although Playa Blanca will be closer to 30 degrees.
