The Spanish UGT union has called a strike for Ryanair handling (ground services) operations, starting on August 15th, to protest at worker sanctions and the abuse of overtime.
Ryanair’s handling subsidiary Azul Handling will take action on August 15th, 16th, and 17th continuing every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday thereafter until December 31st, 2025, the UGT announced.
The strike has been prompted by Azul Handling imposing sanctions on workers who refuse to work non-mandatory hours, and who can face penalties of up to 36 days without employment or pay. UGT says the strike is “the sole and exclusive responsibility of the company and its reckless conduct toward the workforce.”
The union demands that the sanctions are withdrawn, joint commission rulings are observed, and a negotiation process is launched to improve the conditions of over 3,000 workers in Spain.
