Lanzarote is under an orange heat alert this Wednesday, with temperatures predicted to reach up to 37 degrees Celsius.
Spain’s weather agency AEMET has issued the alert from 9 am to 9pm on Wednesday 16th July, saying that it will principally affect the west and southeast coasts of the island, a region which includes all major tourist resorts and the capital Arrecife.
An orange alert is the second highest alert level, and means that citizens should take positive measures to protect themselves, such as keeping hydrated, staying in shade, wearing loose, light clothing and sun protection, avoiding strenuous physical activity and caring for vulnerable individuals.
This is the first heat alert of what has so far been a rather cool summer. Temperatures are predicted to return to normal levels on Thursday as the breeze picks up again.
