Lanzarote taxi drivers have threatened a strike in Easter week in protest at Cabildo plans to centralise the island’s taxi service.

Taxi co-operatives from San Bartolomé, Yaiza and Tías have threatened to provide only minimum services from 10 am to 2 pm from next Monday to Thursday.

The taxi co-ops complain that the Cabildo intends to set up a central taxi rank, and say “We’re not against this in principle, but this is not the way to do it.” They allege that the Cabildo has failed to contact them to discuss the proposal and is acting in a “dictatorial” manner.
