The FIBA 3×3 Lanzarote Challenger basketball competition was announced in Arrecife this week and will take place between the 25th and 28th of July with a host of basketball related challenges.

The FIBA 3×3 Challenger is an exhilarating basketball tournament that showcases the fast-paced and dynamic nature of the 3×3 basketball format. The challenger events will take place all over the world with events in China, America, Abu Dhabi, Lanzarote and more.

The Challengers are the premium international qualifiers to the World Tour. They qualify teams directly to 3×3’s flagship competition.

The event was presented this week and was attended by Cabildo vice presdient, Jacobo Medina; the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, along with other dignitaries such as Juan Monzón, Cabildo Sports Councillor; Héctor Fernández, CEO of the Sociedad de Promoción Exterior de Lanzarote (SPEL); Sergio Castro, delegate of the Canarian Basketball Federation in Lanzarote; ACB player, businessman and 3×3 promoter, Ferran Bassas, and Marius Gal, general manager of Hoopers Under The Rim, who led the presentation.

After the presentation, the Arrecife mayor highlighted the “great dynamizing character that provides this type of events to the capital, which reinforce and enhance Arrecife as a core of sports activities for citizens and visitors”.

SPEL CEO, Héctor Fernández, pointed out the interest for the tourist sector “to put together an almost weekly calendar of events as is happening in Lanzarote. To put together a first-class tourist-sports proposal turns our island into an attractive destination that transforms the passive dynamics of the tourist into an active attitude”.

The event will take place between the 25th and 28th of July at the Parque Islas Canarias in Arrecife. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
