The island saw a decline in rubbish container and car fires in 2023.

In 2022, Lanzarote saw a surge in fires and recorded a total of 234 rubbish container fires and 66 vehicle fires. However, in 2023 the island recorded 124 rubbish container fires and 56 vehicles fires which is still a large number but almost half of 2022’s total.

According to the data, Arrecife was the area that had the greatest number of reports in 2023. Of the 124 container fires in 2023, 56 were reported in the capital. Haría and Tinajo were the least affected areas with 8 container fires.

San Bartolomé suffered 17 container fires (mainly in Playa Honda), Tías suffered 20 container fires (mainly in Puerto del Carmen), Yaiza suffered 13 container fires and Teguise suffered 12.

Additionally, Arrecife was also the area that saw the most vehicle fires with 35 reports in 2023.

San Bartolomé recorded 3 vehicle fires, 4 in Teguise, 6 in Tias, 3 in Yaiza, 3 in Haria and 2 in Tinajo.
