2023 was Lanzarote’s hottest recorded year, with an average overall temperature of 22.7 degrees Celsius.

The intense heatwaves of August and unseasonably hot spells in October had raised suspicions that last year would be the hottest on record, but it turned out to beat the existing record in 2014 by 0.3 degrees.

Only 32 days brought rainfall last year, bringing a total of 38.7 mms of rainfall. Half of this fell in February, and last year is classified as a drought year, the second driest since 2001. From the months of June to September no rainfall was recorded at all.
